From the publisher, Ron Shandler Welcome to RotoHQ.com. The concept for a strategy-based reference source started as a publication called the Fantasy Baseball Workbook in 1999. In 2001, we freed ourselves from the shackles of ink on paper and created a massive online library of material you'll find nowhere else. We're different. I mean, really different. There are a ton of pre-season publications and web sites out there, and they all look pretty much the same. Same stats, same commentary, same strategies. RotoHQ.com doesn't look anything like these other information sources. You won't find any player news here. If you want to know why Eric Chavez sat out last night's game, you'll have to go elsewhere for that. You won't find depth charts here either, or player stats, or projections or injury reports. This is all important information you will need to play this game. But it won't tell you how to play this game. That's what RotoHQ.com is all about. We are the how of fantasy baseball. This web site focuses purely on roll-your-sleeves-up, get-down-and-dirty tools. It contains over 200 essays on a variety of topics. It includes worksheets for Excel and LOTUS, and online tools. It includes LINERS, which are a series of quick tips and hints, and HEAD GAMES, which focus on psychological pitfalls we often fall into. This site is divided up into logical sections that coincide with the chronology of a fantasy season. That's because the roster management process varies depending upon the time of year. There are different decision points in January, versus May, versus August. When RotoHQ first debuted, it was pretty much pure Rotisserie -- marinated, skewered and cooked until succulent. In 2002, we open things up a bit. We've accumulated so much material on Scoresheet Baseball, we needed to find it a home -- this is now it. There are a lot of strange strategies proposed here, as well as ideas that on the surface appear as pure heresy. We are of the philosophy that the Founding Fathers provided with us a foundation for this game format, and we're grateful, but that's where it really ends. Playing fantasy baseball is a personal experience and each league needs to adopt a set of rules that best meets the needs of its participants. We don't expect you to adopt every one of our suggestions, or even any of them. In fact, some are mutually exclusive. Our intent is for you to open your eyes to other possibilities, and from that, perhaps get an idea that can help enhance your own experience. I consider this web site to be a perpetual work in process because we are constantly finding new ways to play and win. We add new essays and update existing material each winter, and encourage your input and suggestions for ways to make this site even better. Bottom line on this... Have fun. Rotisserie is supposed to be fun. Ron Shandler |
